The Blue River Resort Costa Rica is located in the northern zone, only a short distance from the border with Nicaragua. It is north of Costa Rica’s Rincon de la Vieja Volcano.
I went with my friends Jessica and Grevin for two nights which was too short. We had a spacious room with two very comfortable queen beds, and a large bathroom. The structure was made from yellow pine imported into Costa Rica from Fla. and has been chemically treated so the tropical termites would not attack it.
After the one and one half hour car trip from Liberia we were tired and immediately got into one of the three hot springs…just perfect after a long day! Afterwards dinner at the open air restaurant where we ordered a tropical chicken salad, deliciously made from fresh greens grown on the grounds. I treated myself to cup of freshly brewed Costa Rica coffee from the Brand 1860. The menu is varied and offers choices for the kids as well as adults. The chef is a young Costa Rican named Julio who trained at the INA (largest cooking school in Costa Rica)
I was so impressed with the Blue River Resort and Hot Springs. It is surrounded by lush rain forests and dense jungle with the sounds of monkeys in the morning and so many colorful tropical birds…toucans and green parrots. The Blue River runs adjacent to the resort. Several different guided hikes are offered which takes one thru the rainforest and down by the Blue River. Horseback riding along the Blue River is also offered. The best is the Tubing Down the Blue River….my-my what an experience! Bouncing up and over the rapids (which were not too swift) was sooo much fun. The is offered for kids and adults, but the kids must be tall enough to sit comfortably in the tube. The tazan zip line flying thru the rainforest canopy is awesome!
The spa offers body mud wraps from the volcanic soil, plus superb therapeutic massage therapy.
Overall The Blue River Resort and Hot Springs is a superb choice for a family vacation. Up to two kids under age ten stay for free in the room with the parents. With so many outdoor activities to offer as well as a large cool water swimming pool and three separate hot spring pools, the kids will never be bored.
