A small hotel “eco lodge” where you can stay while visiting Rincon de la Vieja National park. And I highly recommend it.  Hotel Rincon de la Vieja  is located at base of the Rincon de la Vieja Volcano National park

This Rincon de la Vieja National Park  is located  thirty minutes northeast of Liberia.  The volcano is presently inactive.  You can drive  north from Liberia.  Look for the signs on the Rt. leading you to the National park.

My two friends Jessica and Grevin and I set off from Alajuela in the central valley near SJO international airport. on a two night excursion to this most interesting volcano.  (Rincon de la Vieja Volcano National Park).

We choose Hotel Rincon de La Vieja for our accommodations.  It is really an eco lodge, very rustic and simple cabins. The setting is beautiful and isolated.   Serene pastures are home to horses and cattle and a large lake where wild geese come to flap their wings in the cool water.  The hotel has a small dining room and the food is a set menu.   …Best part of its location is the closeness to the entrance to the National Park.

Rincon de la Vieja National Park This 34,800 acre (14,084 ha) national park is home to an intriguing combination of volcanic geological wonders and pristine tropical forests that span six life zones. Of course the main attraction is the smooth cinder cone volcano, Rincon de la Vieja (6217 ft, 1895 m), comprising of nine contiguous craters that dot the volcanic national park. Among the craters is the Santa Maria Volcano (Volcan Santa Maria), the highest peak at 6,385 feet (1916 m). This collection of volcanic peaks are the most active in the Guanacaste Mountains (Cordillera de Guanacaste), where major volcanic activity occurred during the latter half of the 1960’s. The Von Seebach crater is still currently active, continually venting steam and the occasional volcanic hiccup.
